“And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:19–20
Mediums, readings, spirit guides, “manifesting,” signs from lost loved ones. None of it is new. It is the oldest trade on earth wearing this decade's clothes, and it sells one product: the serpent's original promise.
“Yea, hath God said... that it is appointed unto men once to die? They are still here. She sends you signs. Ask the cards. Ask the stars. Ask her.”
How the question is asked on this front
Remember what the serpent actually sold in the garden. Two claims: “Ye shall not surely die” and “ye shall be as gods” (Genesis 3:4–5). Now walk the aisles of this front. The medium sells the first lie: your dead are not dead, and for a fee they will speak. The manifesting coach sells the second: speak to the universe and reality obeys you, a god's power on a subscription plan. Every psychic app and every deck of cards is retailing one of those two sentences. The inventory has not changed since Eden. Only the packaging.

Deuteronomy 18 is a complete inventory of this front. Set the modern labels beside the statute and see if anything sold today is missing from the list.

Nothing on the modern shelf required a new law. The statute anticipated the entire catalog, which tells you the merchandise never changed, only the marketing.

Scripture records exactly one king who consulted a medium, and it prints his file. Saul, rejected of God and desperate for a word, went by night to a woman with a familiar spirit at Endor (1 Samuel 28). He got his message. It was his death sentence, delivered for the next day. The coroner's report is written in 1 Chronicles 10:13–14 and it names the cause:
It may well be real. That is precisely the warning. The question was never whether people experience something at the séance and the reading; it is what answers when you call. “Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). A spirit that knows your grandmother's nickname is not your grandmother; it is something old enough to have watched her whole life, wearing her voice as bait. The Book's instruction is not to debunk the spirits. It is to try them (1 John 4:1), and the trial is Isaiah 8:20: if they speak not according to this word, there is no light in them.

The rule of this front does not change when the séance moves to a cathedral. Apply the same trial to the most famous appearing spirit in the world.
Lourdes. Fatima. Guadalupe. Medjugorje. Strip away the crowds and the candles and describe the event in plain words: a being of light appears, claims to be a woman who departed this life nearly two thousand years ago, weeps, comforts, performs wonders, and delivers messages that millions receive as the voice of heaven. That is not a new category. That is this front's oldest pattern, the departed one returned with signs, performed at the largest scale on earth.
The Book never warns that the devil will come looking dark and dreadful. It warns of the opposite, in the plainest terms:
Read them again slowly. An angel of light. An angel from heaven, preaching. And the Spirit speaks expressly of how the last days would go: “some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils” (1 Timothy 4:1). Radiant, religious, kind, and lying. The costume was described in the record centuries before the first apparition ever drew a crowd.
So run the same trial on the apparitions' own recorded messages. They style her the Queen of Heaven, a title the Book reserves for an idol Judah burned incense to, under judgment for it (Jeremiah 7:18; 44:17–25). They offer her heart as your refuge and her intercession as your way. The Book: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). And the real Mary? Scripture records her confessing her own need, “my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour” (Luke 1:47), and her last recorded words send every eye away from herself to her Son: “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it” (John 2:5).
A spirit wearing Mary's face while contradicting Mary's words is not Mary. It is the same thing that wears a grandmother's voice at the séance, dressed for a bigger room. The blessed virgin of scripture is not on trial here. The thing borrowing her name is, and it fails the trial at every point of the record.
What saith the Scripture
This front preys on the grieving, so the answer owes them more than a rebuke. Here is what God actually offers the broken heart, and it is better than a séance:
In the Lord's own account of the rich man and Lazarus, the request for a messenger from the dead is heard and refused, and the reason given is this front's verdict: the written Word is the appointed voice, and the man who will not hear it would not be persuaded by a ghost. God does not send your loved ones back with signs. He sent his Son forward through death and brought him out the other side, so that “them also which sleep in Jesus” are not lost to you. They are scheduled.
Grief is not a weakness this site scolds. It is the exact door where the enemy sells his oldest counterfeit, and where the Book offers the only comfort with a resurrection behind it. Seek unto your God. The living have no business at the doors of the dead, because the Living One holds the keys: “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death” (Revelation 1:18).
